Wellspring University Celebrates Uyi Akpata At Retirement
On Thursday, 29th August 2024, the principal officers and governing council members of Wellspring University held a reception in honour of Dr. Uyi Akpata, a distinguished recipient of the university’s honorary doctorate and a valued associate. The event celebrated Dr. Akpata’s retirement and acknowledged his significant contributions to the institution’s development.
Dr. Akpata, the special guest of honour, recently retired from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he held the roles of Country Senior Partner, Nigeria, and Regional Senior Partner, PwC West Africa, capping a remarkable 40-year career with the firm.
Welcoming Dr. Akpata, the Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Professor Isaac Rotimi Ajayi, FNIP, praised his achievements both in industry and as an ambassador of the university. He noted that the reception was the university’s way of expressing gratitude for Dr. Akpata’s contributions and conveyed the institution’s desire to further collaborate with him, leveraging his experience and influence for the university’s growth.

A formal presentation was given by Mr. Emmanuel Isimoya, Director of Physical Planning and a member of the governing council, detailing the university’s development journey from its inception to its future ambitions. He also highlighted the university’s current projects and aspirations to become one of the nation’s top institutions in the near future.
Following a special tour of the ongoing projects, guests were treated to refreshments. In his remarks, Dr. Akpata expressed his gratitude for the gesture, acknowledging its timeliness as he considered how to spend his retirement. He reaffirmed his commitment to contributing his time and resources towards achieving Wellspring University’s vision.
Dr. Akpata had been conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Management Science by Wellspring University in 2018, recognising his contributions to both the Nigerian business landscape and the institution.
