Department of Community Health Science
The Bachelor of Community Health Science program is established to provide a rigorous academic and professional foundation for the production of top-tier Allied Health professionals. The program focuses on bridging the gap between clinical healthcare delivery and grassroots community wellness, with a massive emphasis on primary healthcare (PHC) systems, disease prevention, health promotion, and community-led interventions.
Philosophy and Objectives
Our core objective is to train highly skilled health practitioners who possess deep analytical, diagnostic, administrative, and leadership capacities to manage healthcare institutions, formulate sound health policies, and effectively combat emerging and re-emerging epidemiological threats within West Africa and globally.
Admission Requirements
To maintain the high standards required by both the NUC and professional regulatory boards, candidates must satisfy the following admission criteria:
1. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Pathway (100 Level Entry)
Candidates seeking entry via UTME must possess:
O'Level Credentials:
A minimum of five (5) credit-level passes in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), NECO, or NABTEB in not more than two sittings. The compulsory subjects must include: English Language | Mathematics | Biology (or Health Science) | Chemistry | Physics
UTME
Subject Combination: Candidates must sit for the following subjects in the JAMB examination: English Language | Biology | Chemistry | Physics
Institutional Cut-off:
Candidates must achieve an acceptable, competitive score in the UTME and participate in the university's Post-UTME screening exercises.
2. Direct Entry (DE) Pathway (200 Level Entry)
Candidates seeking advanced standing entry must meet the basic O'Level credit requirements stated above, alongside any of the following qualifications:
1. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Pathway (100 Level Entry)
Candidates seeking entry via UTME must possess:
A minimum of two passes at the GCE Advanced Level (A'Level) or IJMB in principal science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
A recognized Diploma in Community Health, Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) certificate, or National Diploma (ND) in a related health science discipline with an upper credit pass from an NUC/Board-accredited institution.
A registered Nursing (RN) or Midwifery (RM) certificate.
A first degree (B.Sc.) in a related biological science discipline with a minimum of a Second Class Lower division.
Program Duration
In strict accordance with the NUC CCMAS guidelines for professional Allied Health programs, the duration is structured as follows:

NUC CCMAS Compliant5 Academic Sessions / 10 Semesters
Comprises intensive theoretical coursework, specialized laboratory diagnostics sessions, and regular community-based field postings.
4 Academic Sessions / 8 Semesters
Focuses heavily on professional core concentration, clinical rotations, and health service management training modules.
Mandatory Fieldwork Notice: Throughout the duration of the program, all students are required to participate in structured industrial work experiences and clinical rotations at approved Primary Healthcare (PHC) facilities.

Professor Orhue O. AMENGIALUE
Professor Orhue Osayamen Amengialue is a Professor of Medical Microbiology and Virology, and the Dean of College of Health Sciences, Wellspring University, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He is an intellectual colossus, with a purpose driven personality, whose several years of experience span through the medical science practice and academia. He holds a B.Sc. in Microbiology from the Ambrose Alli University, Edo State, Nigeria. Also, he holds an M.Sc. Degree in Public Health Microbiology, and a Ph.D Degree in Medical Microbiology and Virology, both from the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. Aside his medical background and expertise, he is a Chattered Manager, with certification in Management. Professor Amengialue is an Environmental and Public Health expert, Medical Microbiologist and a Virologist who has contributed significantly to humanity and existing body of knowledge, through community service and scholarly research works, published in several reputable journals. He is a visible scholar who has attended several local and international conferences/workshops with presentations. Professor Amengialue is a Member of different professional bodies such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
