The School of Postgraduate Studies proudly celebrated its first cohort of postgraduate diploma, MSc, and MBA graduates at the University’s 3rd Convocation Ceremony in September 2022. Our graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and expertise to excel in their respective fields, contributing significantly to both academia and industry. The general requirements for admission into the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Wellspring University typically include the following:

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a university recognized by the Wellspring University Senate.

Academic Standing: A minimum of a Third Class Honours Degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Banking & Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, or any other acceptable degree.

Note: The requirement of a “minimum of Third Class Degree” for the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) is also listed, which often serves as a pathway for those with lower degree classifications to eventually pursue an MBA as well. 

Supporting Qualifications

Professional Certificates: Holders of relevant professional certificates like ACA, CIBN, CITN, etc., are typically eligible to apply.

Higher National Diploma (HND): Holders of an HND in a relevant discipline are also usually eligible.

General Postgraduate Requirements

O’Level Credits: You must satisfy the basic matriculation requirements of the university, which generally include five (5) credit passes at the Ordinary Level (WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or equivalent) in not more than two sittings.3 These subjects must include:

English Language

Mathematics

Three other subjects relevant to Management/Social Sciences.

Transcripts: Submission of academic transcripts from your previous institution is usually required.

NYSC Certificate/Exemption Letter: Required for Nigerian applicants.

General Academic Requirements For PGD

Bachelor’s Degree: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline from Wellspring University or any other recognized university/institution.

The minimum accepted class of degree is often a Third Class Honours.

Higher National Diploma (HND): Holders of an HND certificate in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution are also eligible, usually with a minimum of a Lower Credit pass.

General O’Level Requirements

Matriculation Requirements: All candidates must satisfy the minimum matriculation requirements of the university. 

This typically means having at least five (5) credit passes at the O’Level (SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or acceptable equivalents).

Key Subjects: These five credits must generally include:

English Language

Mathematics (especially for programs in Science, Social Sciences, and Management Sciences)

Other relevant subjects specific to the PGD program of interest (e.g., Physics and two other science subjects for PGD Computer Science).

Duration

The duration for a full-time PGD typically ranges from a minimum of one (1) session (2 semesters), culminating in a dissertation/thesis.

General Academic Requirements For MSc.

The general requirements for an MSc (Master of Science)in Wellspring University are :

1. Academic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

Direct Entry (Preferred): A B.Sc. in Accounting with a minimum of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division), often with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 5-point scale (or equivalent).

Candidates with Related Degrees: Applicants with a B.Sc. in related disciplines, and are also required to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in the course of intent first. The PGD must be at an acceptable level (e.g., minimum of an Upper Credit or a specific CGPA).

Lower Class/Third Class: Candidates with a Third Class degree are usually only considered if they possess a PGD in course of intent with an acceptable CGPA (e.g., 3.0 on a 5-point scale).

HND Certificates: Holding a recognized HND certificate are usually only considered if they possess a PGD in course of intent with an acceptable CGPA (e.g., 3.0 on a 5-point scale).

2. O’ Level Requirements

Candidates must satisfy the O’ Level (SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB) requirements for entry into the undergraduate program, which generally include Five (5) credit passes at not more than two sittings.

These credits must include English Language and Mathematics.

Other key subjects usually required are Core Subjects of the course of study.

3. Mandatory Documents

Official Academic Transcript: Candidates must ensure that their official academic transcripts from all previous institutions are processed and forwarded directly to the university’s School of Postgraduate Studies. Only applicants whose transcripts are received are generally considered for admission.

NYSC Certificate: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate or a valid Exclusion/Exemption Letter is mandatory for Nigerian graduates.

Referees’ Reports: Two to three Letters of Recommendation (Referees’ Reports) from persons who can attest to the applicant’s academic and professional abilities are required.

Other Documents: A current Curriculum Vitae (CV)/Resume and a Statement of Purpose outlining career goals and research interests.

4. Duration

The duration for a full-time MSc typically ranges from a minimum of two (2) sessions (4 semesters) to a maximum of 3 sessions six (6) semesters, culminating in a dissertation/thesis.

Professor Okpara Enyinna

Professor Okpara Enyinna brings a wealth of experience and academic excellence to his role as the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies. Prior to this, he served as the Dean of the College of Social and Management Sciences at Wellspring University. He has also been the Head of the Department of Accounting for two consecutive three-year terms. A distinguished Professor of Accounting and Finance, Professor Enyinna is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. His academic credentials include a PhD, M.Sc, B.Sc, and HND in Accounting, complemented by a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Business Education. His professional expertise spans auditing, financial reporting analysis, project and investment appraisal, and public sector accounting. Professor Enyinna is a prolific scholar with over 30 published articles in prestigious journals, both locally and internationally. He has presented more than fifteen lecture papers across various international forums, including Dallas, Washington DC, Las Vegas (USA), Italy, Spain, Sierra Leone, and Rwanda. He also contributes to the academic community as an external examiner for several universities and as a resource person for the National Board for Technical Education, where he participates in the accreditation of Accounting departments in Nigerian polytechnics. Additionally, he has served on the Intergovernmental Relations Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria for three consecutive years. With his extensive experience and dedication to excellence, Professor Enyinna plays a pivotal role in guiding the School of Postgraduate Studies towards achieving its academic and research goals.
