The Department of Mass Communication is a key component of the College of Social and Management Sciences (CSMS). It offers a comprehensive four-year degree program leading to the award of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mass Communication. This program is designed to develop students both academically and professionally, preparing them for diverse and dynamic careers in the media and communication industry. The B.Sc. in Mass Communication program provides students with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of mass communication. It equips graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in various roles, including: Media Entrepreneurship, Reporting and Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising, Media Content Creation, etc The curriculum is structured to provide a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Key areas of study include: Journalism and News Writing, Broadcasting and Digital Media, Public Relations and Advertising, etc Students participate in hands-on projects, internships, and real-world media simulations to enhance their practical skills and professional readiness. The Department of Mass Communication at Wellspring University is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Admission Requirements

Admission through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (4 years Degree Programme)

Candidates seeking admission into the B.Sc. Mass Communication programme must have:

UTME score as determined.
UTME subject combination - English, Literature in English, and any other two from Art or Social Science
Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should English, Mathematics, Literature in English any other two from: Art - (Arabic, CRS, Civic Education, Fine Art, History, Igbo, Islamic Studies, Music or Yoruba) or Social Science - (Geography or Government)
Admission through Direct Entry (3-years Full-Time Degree programme)

Candidates seeking direct entry admission into the B.Sc. Mass Communication programme must have:

Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should include English, Mathematics, Literature in English any other two from: Art - (Arabic, CRS, Civic Education, Fine Art, History, Igbo, Islamic Studies, Music or Yoruba) or Social Science - (Geography or Government). In addition, the candidates must have:
Professional Diploma in Mass Communication of any University approved by the Senate of the University
Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication from approved and recognized Polytechnics in Nigeria.
Direct Entry Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board registration.

Dr. Catherine Isioma Nwokoro

Dr. Catherine Isioma Nwokoro is a distinguished specialist in Health Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, Gender Studies, and Development Communication. She brings extensive academic and professional expertise to her role, backed by a solid educational foundation and a wealth of experience in teaching, research, and community service. Dr. Nwokoro holds several advanced degrees in Mass Communication, including:

B.Sc. in Mass Communication from Delta State University, Abraka (2005)

Master's Degree in Communication Management from Delta State University, Abraka (2010)

M.Sc. in Mass Communication from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) (2017)

Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (2022)

With over nine years of teaching experience, Dr. Nwokoro has instructed both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including Master's and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programs. Her roles have extended to supervising students, coordinating Industrial Training (IT), and developing and advising on course content. She has also been involved in the management and administration of academic programs, including part-time and top-up conversion programs. Dr. Nwokoro is a prolific researcher with 20 international and local publications to her credit. Her research interests span across various domains of communication, reflecting her commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in her field. She is an active member of several professional bodies, including: Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN) Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON) Beyond her academic career, Dr. Nwokoro has made significant contributions to non-profit healthcare initiatives. She has been actively involved in sensitization efforts against COVID-19 and child-killer diseases such as poliomyelitis, demonstrating her commitment to public health and community well-being. Dr. Catherine Isioma Nwokoro’s blend of academic excellence, research contributions, and community service makes her a valuable asset to the field of Mass Communication and to Wellspring University. Her dedication to education and public health underscores her role as a leader and innovator in her areas of expertise.
