The Department of Biological Sciences at Wellspring University offers two comprehensive four-year programs leading to the award of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry. These programs are meticulously designed to provide students with up-to-date scientific knowledge and cutting-edge laboratory skills in their respective fields. Graduates of the Microbiology and Biochemistry programs are well-equipped for employment in a variety of sectors, including Government and private research institutes, Educational institutions, Pharmaceutical industries, Beverage and food industries, Environmental organisations etc. Additionally, graduates have the opportunity to further their education and enhance their skills through higher degrees and certifications such as the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN).

Admission Requirements
Admission through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (4 years Full-Time Degree Programme)
Candidates seeking admission into this department must have:
UTME score as determined.
UTME subject combination – English language, Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Mathematics.
Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and any other from: Food and Nutrition, or Physics Agricultural Science.
Admission through Direct Entry (3-years Full-Time Degree programme)
Candidates seeking direct entry admission into this department must have:
Not less than ordinary level credit passes in at least five (5) subjects in WAEC/GCE /NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and any other from: Food and Nutrition, Physics or Agricultural Science. In addition, candidates must have:
At least two Advanced Level passes in GCE/IJMB/JUPEB
Diploma in a relevant discipline, obtained from a recognized University; National Diploma, from a recognized polytechnic or College of Technology or B.Sc. degree of a recognized university in a related field.
Direct Entry Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board registration.

Mrs. P. A. Egharevba-Ojo
Mrs. P. A. Egharevba-Ojo is a distinguished Environmental and Public Health Microbiologist with commendable experience in academia. As a pioneer staff member in the Department of Biological Sciences at Wellspring University, she has played a pivotal role in the annual graduation of competent students who excel in their chosen careers. Her extensive experience spans all levels of education, making her a seasoned and respected educator. Mrs. Egharevba-Ojo holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Microbiology from the prestigious University of Benin, Benin City. She is currently advancing her academic qualifications with a Ph.D. in Microbiology. A prolific writer, Mrs. Egharevba-Ojo has authored numerous articles published in "Books of Abstracts" and in both local and international journals. She has also contributed chapters to books focused on science and microbiology. Her research interests include Medicinal Plants, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases and Environmental Issues. Her research aims to develop programs and policies that promote environmental sanitation and create disease-free communities. She is an active member of several professional organisations, including:
Nigerian Society of Microbiology (NSM)
American Society of Microbiology (ASM)
She has attended numerous national and international conferences, reflecting her commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of the latest advancements in her field. As the Acting Coordinator of the Department of Biological Sciences, Mrs. Egharevba-Ojo is dedicated to promoting high academic standards through the development of innovative and effective pedagogical approaches to teaching, learning, and evaluation. Her goal is to enhance student performance and ensure that graduates are well-prepared for their professional careers.
