The Department of Accounting offers one of the cornerstone programmes of the College of Social and Management Sciences (CSMS). Established to provide a comprehensive education in accounting principles and practices, the department offers a rigorous and dynamic four-year degree program leading to the award of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accounting. The B.Sc. in Accounting program is meticulously designed to offer a robust academic and professional foundation. This program equips students with the essential knowledge and skills required to excel in various accounting roles and to pursue continuous professional development. Graduates of this program are well-prepared to assume managerial responsibilities in both the public and private sectors. The curriculum encompasses a broad spectrum of courses that cover fundamental and advanced accounting topics, including Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Financial Management, Economics and more. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the program emphasises practical skills and real-world applications. Students engage in case studies, internships, and projects that provide hands-on experience and exposure to current industry practices. The Department of Accounting at Wellspring University is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). This accreditation is a testament to the quality and rigour of our academic programmes, ensuring that our graduates meet national and international standards of excellence in accounting education.

Graduates of the B.Sc. in Accounting program are equipped to pursue a variety of career paths, including: Public Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Auditing, Tax Consulting, Financial Analysis,Management Consulting, Government and Nonprofit Accounting. Admission Requirements

Admission through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Candidates seeking admission into the B.Sc. Accounting programme must have:

UTME score as determined.
UTME subject combination – English language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other from Social Science.
Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from: Social Science – Geography, Government or Commercial - Accounts, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Insurance, Marketing, Office Practice, Financial Accounting, Store Management.
Admission through Direct Entry (3-years Full-Time Degree programme)

Candidates seeking direct entry admission into the B.Sc. Accounting programme must have:

Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English Language, Mathematics English, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from: Social Science (Geography, Government) or Commercial (Accounts, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Insurance, Marketing, Office Practice, Financial Accounting, Store Management).
In addition, the candidates must have passing grades in Accounting and Economics in the Advanced level GCE/IJMB/JUPEB or the equivalent.
Diploma in a relevant discipline, obtained from a recognized University
National Diploma, from a recognized polytechnic or College of Technology.

Head of Department of Accounting

Dr. Robert Eke

Dr. Robert Eke is a distinguished Senior Lecturer and the Acting Head of the Department of Accounting at the College of Social and Management Sciences, Wellspring University, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. A Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in both the government and banking sectors, Dr. Eke transitioned to academia where he has made significant contributions to the field of accounting and finance. Dr. Eke holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accounting, graduating with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from the University of Lagos, Lagos State. He further advanced his education with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Finance from the University of Benin, Edo State. Before joining Wellspring University, Dr. Eke accrued valuable experience in government parastatals and the banking industry. This diverse background has enriched his teaching and research, providing students with practical insights into both corporate and public sector financial management. An active researcher, Dr. Eke has contributed to numerous studies, the findings of which have been published in esteemed local and international journals. His research interests include corporate finance, public sector financial management, and the financial management techniques of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. Dr. Eke's work aims to enhance the financial management practices of SMEs, thereby contributing to their sustainability and growth. Dr. Eke has actively participated in both local and international conferences, where he has presented papers and shared his research findings with the global academic community. His participation in these events underscores his commitment to continuous learning and knowledge dissemination. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), reflecting his high standing and professional excellence in the field of accounting. As the Acting Head of the Department of Accounting at Wellspring University, Dr. Eke is dedicated to fostering an environment of academic excellence and professional integrity. His leadership is pivotal in guiding the department towards achieving its educational and research objectives.
