Department of Business Management and Tourism Studies

The Department of Business Management and Tourism Studies at Wellspring University offers three comprehensive four-year programs designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required for success in the dynamic fields of business. Our department is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, practical experience, and professional development through three key courses:

B.Sc. Business Administration

This program provides a strong foundation in business principles, management strategies, and entrepreneurial skills, preparing graduates for leadership roles in various industries.

B.Sc. Human Resource Management

Focused on the strategic management of human capital, this program covers essential HR functions such as recruitment, training, performance management, and employee relations, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for HR roles in diverse organisational settings.

B.Sc. Hospitality & Tourism Studies

This program blends theoretical knowledge with practical skills in hospitality and tourism management, equipping students to excel in the global tourism industry, event planning, hotel management, and related fields.

Our curriculum is designed to combine rigorous academic coursework with real-world applications, including internships, industry projects, and case studies. This approach ensures that our graduates are well-rounded professionals ready to meet the challenges of the modern business and tourism landscapes. Admission Requirements

Admission through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (4 years Full-Time Degree Programme)

Candidates seeking admission into this department must have:

UTME score as determined.
UTME subject combination – English, Economics, and any other from Social Science or Commercial subjects
Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from: Social Science (Geography, Government) or Commercial (Accounts, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Insurance, Marketing, Office Practice, Financial Accounting, Store Management) or Science (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Data Processing, Physics).
Admission through Direct Entry (3-years Full-Time Degree programme)

Candidates seeking direct entry admission into this department must have:

Not less than ordinary level credit passes in at least five (5) subjects in WAEC/GCE /NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from: Social Science (Geography, Government) or Commercial (Accounts, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Insurance, Marketing, Office Practice, Financial Accounting, Store Management) or Science (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Data Processing, Physics). In addition, the candidates must have:
At least two Advanced Level passes in GCE/IJMB/JUPEB.
Diploma in a relevant discipline, obtained from a recognized University.
National Diploma, from a recognized polytechnic or College of Technology.
Intermediate Certificate of relevant Professional Bodies.
Direct Entry Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board registration.
Inter-University Transfer.

Candidates wishing to transfer from another university into any of the Department’s academic programmes must obtain and fill the Inter-University Transfer form, from the University’s Academic Office. An application for admission to the University through inter-university transfer will be considered only if the Department is satisfied that the candidate has met the minimum academic requirements for admission to the programme he or she has chosen.

Dr. Joy Chimebere Iyiegbuniwe is an Associate Professor of Business Administration at the College of Social and Management Sciences. She currently serves as the Acting Head of the Department of Business Management and Tourism Studies. Dr. Iyiegbuniwe holds an impressive array of academic qualifications:

MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the University of Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria

B.Sc. in Business Administration from Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Associate of Business Administration from Atlanta Junior College, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Dr. Iyiegbuniwe specialises in Management, where she applies her extensive knowledge and experience to educate and mentor students in various aspects of business administration and entrepreneurship. Dr. Iyiegbuniwe is a prolific scholar with approximately thirty (30) published articles in reputable scholarly journals. Her research contributions span various topics in business administration and management, reflecting her deep expertise and commitment to advancing knowledge in her field. Dr. Iyiegbuniwe is an active member of several professional bodies, including: Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria (CIPN) The Academy of Management Nigeria (TAMN) She has actively participated in numerous local and international conferences, presenting her research findings and engaging with the global academic community. Her involvement in these conferences emphasises her dedication to continuous professional development and knowledge sharing. As the Acting Head of the Department of Business Administration and Entrepreneurial Studies, Dr. Iyiegbuniwe is committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence and innovation. Her leadership is instrumental in guiding the department towards achieving its educational and research objectives.
