We extend a very warm welcome to you as you begin the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), a professional programme in the College of Health Science, Wellspring University Benin city.
A laboratory analysis by Medical Laboratory scientists represents a critical segment of medical care and is evidence base that is operational within the health sector. Medical Laboratory Scientist are not only trained to produce result, but also assure the quality of those results, laboratory methods used and interpret the health implication hence the Physicians rely on the result generated.
Medical laboratory science training exposes students to Basic Medical Science during the 200 level and core courses through the 300, 400,and 500 level such as Medical Microbiology/ Parasitology, Clinical chemistry, Hematology/ blood transfusion, Histopathology, Immunology/immunochemistry, Instrumentation and laboratory management. Professional examinations are held at second semester of 400 and 500 levels.
Admission into the degree programme follows the laid down rules and regulation of the University;
- UTME (5-year programme)
- Direct entry (4-year programme)
Transfer: students who transfer with transcripts of not less 3.5 of a scale of 5.0 can only join at 200 level provided they possess the requirement for 1 and 2 above.
The department currently enjoys full accreditation by National University Commission (NUC).

Meet the Department Head
Lecturer 1 and Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Wellspring University Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. Dr. Ayanlere is a retired Director of Medical Laboratory service in Central Hospital Benin, Edo State Hospital Management Agency. Her experience spans through academia and public health facility. She holds degrees in AMLS, FMLS from Sch. of Med. Lab. Sci. UBTH, MMLS from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Post graduate Diploma in Computer Science and Ph.D. MLS from University of Benin, She has written quite a number of articles published locally and attended national conferences. She is a member of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria.
