The Department of Economics is one of the foundation courses of the College of Social and Management Sciences (CSMS) of Wellspring University.
The department offers a four-year distinct degree programme leading to the award of B.Sc. degree in Economics. This programme is designed to provide both academic and professional base from which graduates may continue their personal academic and professional development as they assume managerial responsibilities in either public or private sectors of the society
The department currently enjoys full accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Meet the Department Head
Dr. Oyegun Gbenga is a Senior Lecturer and acting Head, Department of Economics College of Social and Management Sciences, Wellspring University Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He is an Economic Analyst whose experience span through the Academia, Oil and Gas and banking sector.
He holds a B.Sc in Economics with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from Ondo State University then in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State; in addition, he has an M.Sc and Ph.D in Monetary Economics from University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He has contributed book chapters to some Economic-based books, and has written quite a number of journal articles which have been published both locally and internationally. He also attends both national and international conferences.
Dr. Oyegun is an Econometrician, Petroleum and Energy Economist and aspires to develop economic models which will be useful in the formulation of theories relevant to the development of the African economy in general and the Nigerian economy in particular.
He is a member of the Nigerian Economic Society.
