To provide the opportunity for graduates of Computer Science and allied disciplines to acquire advanced knowledge in computing thereby preparing them for higher industrial or research positions.



The objectives of the programme are as follows:

  1. To produce skilled graduates with advanced knowledge of Computer Science;
  2. To produce graduates that can contribute adequately to researches in Computer Science
  3. To produce graduates that can positively contribute in addressing challenges in the aspects of technological and national development.




All candidates must satisfy the minimum Matriculation requirements of Wellspring University, i.e. must have not less than ordinary level credit passes in at least five (5) SSCE /GCE, SSCE /NECO (or acceptable equivalents) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects at not more than two sittings. Candidates for admission into M.Sc. degree programme shall normally be graduates of the Wellspring University or of other Universities/Institutions recognized by Senate. The admission of candidates into the programmes is done in any one of the following ways:


  1. A holder of first degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in Computer Science or related disciplines.
  2. A holder of first degree with third class Division in Computer Science or relevant disciplines with a credit pass in PGD in related discipline.
  • A holder of PGD in related discipline with a Merit grade from recognized university with two years of work experience in ICT may be considered for admission.


Duration of Programme 

The programme is offered on a Full-Time basis for duration of a minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.


All candidates shall duly register for the programme for which they are admitted. A student for the programme will be required to register a minimum of thirty-nine (39) credit units.

The following standard terminologies shall be used for different categories of courses:  

(a) Core (C): Compulsory courses specified by the Department which a student must take and pass.  

(b) Elective (E): Courses specified by the Department from which a student can choose in order to make up the required additional units for the award of the degree.


Examination will normally be conducted at the end of each semester. The pass mark for every course assessed is 50%. Results in each course shall be recorded and interpreted as follows:

  1. Candidates shall be credited with the number of course units assigned to the courses which they have passed.
  2. A student who fails in any compulsory course shall re-register for the course and be re-examined at the next opportunity.
  • Project Thesis shall be prepared and submitted in accordance with the appropriate format and other particulars approved. It shall be the work of candidates done under supervision and shall not include unacknowledged material which has been published elsewhere or submitted for a higher degree of any University.

Award of Degree

The Master of Science Degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science will be awarded after a successful completion of prescribed course work and project work.
