The Department of Nursing Science offers a comprehensive 5-year Bachelors degree programme in Nursing Science that encompasses three core areas: Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health. Our mission is to produce highly skilled, knowledgeable, and critical-thinking graduate nurses. Our graduates are proficient in performing evidence-based nursing functions in various settings, therapeutically assisting individuals, families, and communities from diverse backgrounds and cultures to carry out activities that promote and restore health, as well as prevent and control diseases. Accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Department of Nursing Science is a vital part of the College of Health Sciences. Our program leads to a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree and qualifies graduates to be registered and licensed as nurse practitioners. We aim to produce polyvalent nurse practitioners capable of effectively functioning both within and outside Nigeria. This is achieved through our commitment to core nursing values of integrity, human dignity, and social justice, ensuring non-discriminatory practices in promoting, restoring, and maintaining health. The department prides itself on having a team of professionals with extensive experience in both academia and clinical practice. Admission Requirements
Admission through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (5 years Degree Programme)
Candidates seeking direct entry admission into the B.NSc. Nursing Science programme must have:
UTME score as determined.
UTME subject combination – English language, Physics, Chemistry Biology.
Not less than five (5) credit passes in ordinary level WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should be English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Admission through Direct Entry (4-years Full-Time Degree programme)
Candidates seeking direct entry admission into the B.NSc. Nursing Science programme must have:
Not less than ordinary level credit passes in at least five (5) subjects in WAEC/GCE /NECO/NABTEB or the equivalent in not more than two sittings. The subjects should include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
In addition, candidates must have at least two Advanced Level passes in GCE/IJMB/JUPEB (Biology, Physics, Chemistry).

Transfer students from other faculty in the university/other universities, Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Midwives
Transfer students from other faculty in the university/other universities, Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Midwives registered and licensed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria are eligible for admission, provided they satisfy university admission requirement, including:
First degree in regular program of Wellspring University or any other university approved by senate with a second class lower division in any of the following: Medical Biochemistry, Anatomy and Cell biology, Physiology, Pharmacology and therapeutics and Microbiology.
Direct Entry Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board registration.
Associate Professor and Acting Head of Department of Nursing Science
Dr. (Mrs.) Rosemary Ngozi Osunde
Dr. Rosemary Ngozi Osunde, an Associate Professor, currently serves as the Acting Head of the Department of Nursing Science at Wellspring University, Benin City. A distinguished Registered Nurse and Midwife, Dr. Osunde holds a B.Sc. Ed., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Community Health Education from the University of Benin, Edo State. Additionally, she has earned a Bachelor in Nursing Science from the National Open University of Nigeria and an M.Sc. in Nursing (Maternal and Child Health) from Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
Dr. Osunde’s extensive clinical experience spans various wards and units at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, where she held several administrative roles and achieved the rank of Deputy Director of Nursing before her departure in 2016. Following her clinical career, she transitioned to academia, joining the Department of Nursing Science at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State. There, she advanced to the position of Senior Lecturer, serving as the Head of Department and Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies. Currently, Dr. Osunde is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Nursing Science at Wellspring University. Her academic and professional journey is marked by a commitment to excellence in nursing education and practice.
Dr. Osunde has actively participated in and organised numerous scientific conferences both locally and internationally, presenting papers and contributing to the advancement of nursing knowledge. She has an impressive portfolio of over 30 peer-reviewed publications.
