Amidst pomp and pageantry, Wellspring University, one of the most sought after private universities in Nigeria, on Friday 18th October 2024 held its 12th Convocation ceremony for the award of first and higher degrees and presentation of prizes to deserving candidates who had been found worthy in character and learning, having passed through the most stringent academic standards and evaluations.
At the academic harvest which held in the newly-built ultra-modern multipurpose hall, a total of 169 candidates were presented for awards of various degrees and diplomas out of which 69 bagged First Degrees while 100 were conferred with postgraduate Diplomas and Masters Degrees. Among the first degree candidates, 4 individuals made the First Class category. A significant event marking the 12th Convocation was the induction of the graduands in Computer Science, Software Engineering and Cybersecurity into the Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria by the regulatory body prior to their graduation; the first of its kind in Wellspring University.
Delivering a convocation lecture on the topic: “Positioning for Global Competitiveness and Great Societal Impact”, Dr. Uyi Akpata, Chairman, RUSA Advisory and immediate past Country Senior Partner PwC Nigeria and Regional Senior Partner West Africa, and an honorary doctorate degree awardee of Wellspring University, emphasized that the measure of success was not in the number of degrees acquired but in making a difference with a positive impact on society.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Isaac Rotimi Ajayi FNIP chronicled the academic and development strides of the institution, attributing its success to divine providence and the dedication of management, staff and students. He further assured all stakeholders that the university was firmly on its tracks towards attaining its position among the highly ranked universities in the world.
Professor Ajayi also expressed his confidence in Wellspring University‘s excellent academic faculty and facilities strategically positioned to deliver world class tertiary education, stating that all the institution’s academic programmes remained accredited by the National Universities Commission. He added that the Nursing programme which enjoyed the full accreditation of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and state-of-the-art laboratories had been upgraded to a faculty; with increased quota for admissions.
The 12th Convocation was celebrated with a week-long series of events which included a Press Conference, a special keep-fit exercise for staff and students, a novelty match between female staff and students, debate competition, a research exhibition/fair for academic achievements, a musical concert by students and an alumni lecture with dinner. The activities were rounded off by a thanksgiving service at the university chapel.
