OGUH FESTU A. is a holder of Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Business Administration from the Lagos State University Ojo,  with specialization in financial management; Master of  Philosophy (MPhil) in Business Administration (Management) from the Lagos State University Ojo; Master of Science (MSc) Economics (Financial Economics) from the Lagos State University, Ojo; Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar and Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours in Accounting from the Edo State University, Ekpoma, Edo State. He specializes in Financial Management, Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Business finance and Bank Credit. He has worked as a lecturer for nineteen years in Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education teaching courses in Business Administration, Accounting and Finance.

At the Lagos State University, he had the privileges to teach as Adjunct lecturer for fifteen years and held administrative tasking position of a Programme Officer for the Department of Business Administration for ten years.

He equally served the National Open University Victoria Island as an External Examiner from 2014-2016. The Lagos State Polytechnic now known as Lagos State University of Science and Technology engaged him as Part Time Lecturer between  2007-2010.

He is at present, the Acting Head, Department of Business Administration Wellspring University Benin City. Other administrative position at  Wellspring University include Chairman, Procurement committee among others.  

He has industry exposure working as a Principal Consultant in charge of management trainings with XL FINSERV LTD (Financial, Tax and Management Consultants), a consulting firm of DANIEL OLOWU &CO (Chartered Accountants) is a proven ability to function as financial management expert. He is a fellow of the Institute of Investment Professionals of Nigeria. He has published locally and international referred journals with effective human resources management and goal setting abilities. He is creative and innovative thinker.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is to generate and disseminate knowledge in the field of Business Administration and Management. The programme is aimed at exposing the students to theoretical and practical knowledge that will encourage self-reliance in them thereby producing creative and imaginative leaders who would be the drivers for both the private and public sectors of the economy. The Department has the vision of being one of the top business/management departments producing high-quality thorough-bred imaginative and innovative leaders that would champion a private sector-driven Nigerian economy in a competitive global environment; while the mission is imparting quality business education to promote the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge, skills, and behaviour that would strike a balance between the obtaining of professional knowledge and the cultivation of moral probity.

 

The philosophy of the department will also include providing post-graduate education in business/management with the focus of broadening the students’ intellectual exposure to the discipline; develop their capacity to analyze and understand various issues in business and management; and to equip them to apply same to business and management situations and problems.

 

Objectives

Objectives of the programme are:

  1. To provide basic knowledge for the necessary understanding and analysis of problems relating to the management and administration of industrial, commercial and public institutions and other human organizations.
  2. To equip the student with skills needed for recognizing and defining problems and taking appropriate decisions using scientific techniques and tools.
  3. To inculcate in the student, the awareness of, and sensitivity to environmental factors and conditions and their impact on managerial and administrative practices and decisions.
  4. To develop in the student, leadership and interpersonal skills, which are needed for working in an organization.
  5. To develop entrepreneurial spirit in the students which will prepare them to graduate and be employers exploiting the available resources and opportunities.
  6. To provide the students with a strong academic background for research and post-graduate studies with a view to producing competent and world class professionals and academic/researchers to keep pace with the ever increasing demand for management education.
  7. To help generate adequate managerial manpower equipped with appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSA) to handle the growing and changing managerial responsibilities in Nigeria.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the general University requirements, the department shall apply the following in considering admissions of students into the B.Sc. Business Administration Programme.

Admission through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination

Candidates must possess at least five credit passes in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE); general Certificate of Education, Ordinary Level (GCE, O/L); National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB), or any other recognized certificate. The subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics or any other social science subject.

Admission through Direct Entry

  1. They shall possess at least two passes at Advanced Level of the GCE, IJMB or NABTEB. The subject must include Accounting or Economics and any other social science subject. In addition, Candidates for must possess at least five Credits in WAEC NECO, NABTEB, or GCE SSCE, or their equivalents including English Language, Mathematics. The results at both levels must be obtained at not more than two sittings.
  2. Diploma in relevant discipline, at not lower than credit level, obtained from a recognized University; or National Diploma, at not lower than Upper Credit, from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology. In addition, candidates must possess five credits passes, including English Language and Mathematics at the WASC, GCE (O/L) or NABTEB.
  3. Foundation/Intermediate Examination passes of recognized professional bodies such as Institute of Chartered Secretaries, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, etc provided the candidate has credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics in WAEC, NECO OR NABTEB Examinations.
