VC LAUNCHES WELLSPRING UNIVERSITY MONTHLY BULLETIN

In a bid to sustain the ongoing repositioning and efforts geared towards serving the information needs of the Institution, the Vice-Chancellor of Wellspring University, Prof Isaac Rotimi Ajayi, has launched the university’s monthly bulletin.

Unveiling the monthly bulletin, “WELSU NEWS’, the Vice-Chancellor of University charged Mr Adedoyin Esan, the Acting. University Librarian and Chairman of Information, Protocol and Public Relations Committee, to use the publication to meet the information needs of the university.

The Committee is charged with the responsibility of gathering information on daily basis in the University, disseminating such information through ‘WELSU NEWS’. Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, while expressing gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the appointment, assured that, the body will live up to expectations.

The committee has Mr. Hassan Otinau and Miss Ejiro Omogiade as Editor and Secretary respectively. Other members of the committee are: Mr. Adebisi Adeola, Mrs. Joy Odinmayomi and Mr. Benson Onyeije.

WELLSPRING UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENTS OF A DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR (DVC) AND A NEW REGISTRAR IN A NEW BOOST TO THE ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE INSTITUTION

NEW DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR

Wellspring University has appointed Professor Patrick S. Ohikhena MCIPM  to the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor, and Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Uzezi Wara as the Registrar.

Announcing the appointments of the two principal officers, the Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Professor Isaac Rotimi Ajayi FNIP expressed his satisfaction at the antecedents of the new appointees, stating that he was confident in their capacities to contributing their quota to the current efforts to turn Wellspring into a world class institution.

The new DVC, Patrick S. Ohikhena is a Professor of Business Administration; a consummate administrator whose wealth of experience has greatly impacted Wellspring University and his passion for scholarship and teaching in the Department of Business Administration, Wellspring University has remained invaluable.

Professor Ohikhena holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Management from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Benin and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria. He is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN).  

A scholar par excellence, Ohikhena has published over 30 works in Management and Business in reputable peer-reviewed local and international journals, and a book on research methodology in the social and management sciences.

Prof Ohikhena’s research interests include Management Theory, Strategic Management and Policy, Organisational Behaviour, and Human Resource Management while his current research work  is on “Family Business in Nigeria and Africa: Towards Contributing to the Evolving African Management Thought and Philosophy”. 

He has also attended local and international conferences, including the recent international conference on curriculum development and planning in the 21st century, in South Africa.

 

NEW REGISTRAR

Wellspring’s newly appointed Registrar, Dr. Helen Uzezi Wara is a thorough-bred professional with a strong academic background and extensive experience in university administration.  She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Relations & Human Resource Management from Covenant University, Masters in Business administration from Lagos State University & Crawford University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University.

Dr. Wara has held various administrative positions in prestigious institutions such as Covenant University, Afe Babalola University and Havilla University. Her roles have included Acting Registrar, Director of Admissions, Student Affairs and Establishment, Head of Academic Affairs, Hospital Administrator, among others.

 

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Wara has also been involved in teaching as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration. Her research interests include internal branding, competitive advantage in private universities, employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and productivity in service quality, among others. She has published several research papers in reputable journals and has actively participated in various university committees and special assignments.

Dr. Wara is a member of professional bodies such as the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators (IPMAN) and the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators.

NUC ACCREDITS MORE COURSES FOR WELLSPRING UNIVERSITY

As Prof. Isaac Rotimi Ajayi FNIP, the Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Benin City continues his relentless efforts in changing the face of the University, the National Universities Commission (NUC), has given fresh accreditation to eight (8) undergraduate and two (2) postgraduate courses.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ajayi, made this known during a well-attended press conference, organized to brief the public on the latest accreditation exercise by the nation’s foremost university regulatory body, NUC, expressing confidence that Wellspring University was already on its way into becoming a world class citadel of learning.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the newly accredited undergraduate courses are: Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, Computer Science and Mass Communication respectively.

The University also got NUC’s nod for the commencement of the following courses with effect from the 2022/2023 academic session which took off October 2022. The undergraduate courses include: Public Health, Criminology and Security Studies and Human Resource Management.

He further stated that the University also got approval to run Doctor of Business Administration and Ph.D. in Business Administration programmes.

COLLEGE OF SOCIAL AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCE HOLDS 2023 MAIDEN CONFERENCE

The conference held at the University’s multipurpose hall January 27 and 28, 2023, with the theme: “Leveraging on technological innovation for sustainable development.”

Declaring the conference open, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Isaac Rotimi Ajayi, noted that technological innovation as a very crucial driver of sustainable development.

While commending the College, the Vice Chancellor stressed the need for research papers from scholars to critically examine the theme of the conference from different perspectives and proffer recommendations for appropriate policy decision making and implementations. He commended the key note speaker, Prof. (Mrs) Mercy Anyiwe from Department of Economics, University of Benin (UNIBEN), for    sharing her thoughts at the Conference.

The Dean of the College, Prof. Steve Iyayi, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his support and encouragement in ensuring a successful conference.

DIRECTORATE OF PART-TIME STUDIES RECEIVES NUC MONITORING TEAM

The College of Social and Management Sciences received Part Time NUC Accreditation team on 21st of March, 2023. The team was received by the Ag. Director of the programmes, Dr. Gbenga Oyegun. The courses audited include; International Relations, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, and Mass Communication.

 WELLSPRING GETS ICAN ACCREDITATION

The accreditation team of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) which was led by Prof. Alade Omoye, Head of Accounting Department, University of Benin was received on 7th of March, 2023

The team came to access the facility, curriculum, and manpower of the Accounting Department of the University in agreement to institute’s standards for accreditation.

By ICAN accreditation, it implies that graduates of Accounting will be exempted from writing some subjects in other to qualify for the Chartered Accountant certificate.

The accreditation was granted and a certificate was issued to the University at a ceremony held at the ICAN secretariat in Lagos.

STUDENT ICON AWARDS

The Wellspring University student representatives attended the Student Icon Award which was held at Ugbowo, Benin-city. Students who have excelled in their many pursuits throughout the academic year are honored with the Student Icon Award during an award ceremony.

The event, which also featured numerous awards given to deserving students from other tertiary institutions across the country, gave 10 awards to Wellspring University students from the 16 nominations for Wellspring students in the various nomination categories.

We are thankful to God for our students’ exceptional performance.

SOFTSKILL TRAINING FOR WELSU STUDENTS

On the 19th and 20th of January, the Edo jobs team, in conjunction with Jobberman Nigeria, organized a two-day employability training for Wellspring University students.
The program focused on positioning oneself to acquire a desired job after graduation, including CV writing, interview tips, communication skills, developing creative talents, problem solving skills, and how to find relevant employment information.
After the course, the students took an evaluation test, which is a prerequisite to gain access to the Jobberman soft skill certificate.

BATCH B ORIENTATION EXERCISE

The Batch B orientation exercise for 2022/2023 academic session has been held. The exercise was put in place to welcome new students to the institution and acquaint them of the rules and regulations, as well as the consequences of breaking these norms. The exercise addressed basic topics that would enlighten students on the fundamentals of what goes on in the institution, such as registration procedures, highlights of the rules and regulations and sanctions, payment of fees, and so on.
Wellspring University is committed to its students’ progress and welcomes all batch B students to the institution, wishing them a pleasant experience.

WELLSPRING HOLDS CONGREGATION MEETING

The congregation meeting for staff at Wellspring University has been held. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Rotimi Ajayi reiterated that the congregation is an integral and statutory organ of the university that has not been functioning over time. He then stated that the meeting would hold once every semester to discuss the progress that is being made in the institution and also listen to suggestions and ideas from the staff of the institution.

Members of staff made their concerns known in the meeting and thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof Isaac Rotimi Ajayi for his commitment and resilience to see the institution move forward. Barrister Emmanuel Nwaogun was also selected to represent the congregation at senate meetings.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from the registrar, Prof. Patrick Ohikhena.
